Last week, Year 2 pupils visited the David Wilson Homes in the ‘Hambleside’ development. Not to look at the building, but rather to enjoy an afternoon of storytelling. It was part of National Storytelling Week (28^th January to 4^th February). They were enchanted by tales told by Professional Storyteller, Terrie Howey.

It was the first time the company has supported the week, and it is part of their ongoing Education Programme.

 Set up in 2000 by The Society for Storytelling, National Storytelling Week has been used to increase public awareness of the art, practice and value of storytelling. The Society sees a story as the traditional medium of communication from generation to generation, a tool for education and therapy.

Once again there were was a lot of noise from the hall as children from Year 1 were entertained by the Puppet Man. He certainly generated a lot of laughter and participation.

On Friday 13^th January two teams of year four pupils took part in the Fareham partnership Sportshall final. It was a fantastic event with many ex Whiteley pupils helping to run it. It was an inside athletics event and the activities included relay races and standing long jump for example. The children involved showed amazing effort and excellent attitude. It was because of this that the two teams finished first and second.

At the halfway point the two teams were neck and neck, however the team lying in second place at the halfway point managed to pip the other team to the gold medal position. It was great to see that the time the children had given up was well rewarded. Well done all!

The team finishing first was Joe, Hayden, Tom, Spencer, Xianna, Amy, Hannah and Olivia. The team finishing a very close second was Joshua, Thomas, Alex, Alfie, Madison, Lauren, Emily and Zoe.

Many thanks to all the parents who helped with transport and supported the team magnificently.

Cross Country News

Welcome back to training, we can tell that you are all ready and willing to train and race hard in the next few weeks!

We have the last 3 races at Portsdown Hill coming up, all of which are back to back.  As you may remember we are currently 2^nd in the league, with first place in our grasp.  Each and every runner has continued to develop in both strength and ability, long may it continue!

The race dates are detailed below, the last of which does fall on the Inset day before half term.  Hopefully, with your help we will still be able to put a team together and race on the last one.  We would be grateful if you could let us know if you are intending to race by completing and returning the form below.  This really helps with the vast amount of admin that we have to complete at each race.  There will be a Championship Race on Friday 9^th March, we will provide more details nearer the time.

Training will continue up and including the w/c 5^th March.

Dates for Your Diary and School Events

All three classes in Year 1 have been talking about, and making pictures of Flat Stanley. Each class has sent them  to different schools around the world. Class 1S sent theirs to Southampton Academy, Jamestown, Virginia USA. Pupils from that school have sent back a video of Flat Stanley's visit. To see it go to : Year 1 2011 12
