Well, after all the worry in the week about the weather, on the day it was not a problem. A lot of work went into the preparation, organisation and running of the Fayre, and a very enjoyable day for all was the result. It also raised an impressive £4930, so thank you to everyone involved.

In July 2010 a group of 15 ‘creative’ children from Key Stage 2 went to Henry Cort to work in the Art department to re-create some impressionist masterpieces out of plastecine. The results were staggering!

  Jack won a couple of cool prizes. An IPod Nano for himself, and a Flip Ultra video camera for the school (and the red T Shirt). Congratulations Jack!

Young Governors – 2009/2010

This year we have been up to a lot. Here are some of the things we have done.

How are we elected?

Well, we have to make speeches to tell our class what we will do, and then they vote. WE WON!

Abbi, Serena and Olivia – Year 3

Max, Abi and Alex – Year 4

Nicole, Lauren and Harry – Year 5

Daisy, Lewis and Addison – Year 6

 What we did in 2009.

The main thing we did was set up the ‘Tuck Shop’. As you all know, it is still going well.

What we are doing in 2010.

The school pupils chose a charity called the RSPCA. Also we worked with the recycling rangers, and got feedback on anti-bullying week.

We have done peer research, and we are also trying to improve lunchtimes for pupils.  We are working with the community and developed composting across Key Stage 1

How we work.

We work in 4 groups (Curriculum and Learning, Respect and Co-operation, Secure and Valued & School Community). We take suggestions from pupils to make the school a better place.

Achievements.

Last year we got our Bronze Eco Award and this year we want to get Silver.

On Tuesday 22^nd June, 30 children from Years 4 and 5 were lucky enough to get the chance to go to Fratton Park, Portsmouth FC’s home ground, to see authors Helena Pielichaty and Tom Palmer.  

Helena has written over 25 books for children, her latest series, Girls Fc is based around Parrs u11s, a girls football team. 

Tom is the author of two series: Football Academy and Football Detective, his book Foul Play was short listed the Blue Peter Book Award. Tom has been writing “Foul Play: The World Cup Mystery” and a chapter is published every school day at 6am for the duration of the world cup. The idea is that teachers can read out or print it for children to enjoy. This can also be done at home! The story is gripping and he has included lots of relevant score from games as well as the noise of the vuvuzelas!

The event that we took part in was called “Reads United” and was an interactive game of two halves! Both authors chatted to the children about their books and how they gain the inspiration for their books. As they went through this they asked children questions, and if they gave a correct answer, they qualified for a penalty shoot out at the end of the session! 

We really enjoyed the experience of meeting two authors and having the chance to get a book signed by them.

I do have lots of copies of both Helena’s and Tom’s books in the library, although they are very popular!

                                   Hampshire Schools Sports Partnership Tag Rugby

                                                  County Final at Winchester RFC

Having won the Year 5 and 6 Fareham Tag Tournament in January, we were invited to participate in the County Final on Thursday 10^th June. 

We played four pool games, which we won one, drew one, and narrowly missed out on the other two. Amassing a staggering 17 tries over those games put us into 3^rd place in our pool, which is an excellent achievement for our first County Final. Congratulations to Grace, our top try scorer and who also scored in every game. 

Unbeknown to us at the time of playing, we were awarded points by the referees for sportsmanship, team work and general attitude and behaviour. In achieving the highest points in this category for our pool we were amazed and delighted to be given the prestigious ‘Fair Play’ award.

The team: Kain, Grace, Addison, Will, Charlie, Matthew, Adam and Sam.

Our school is part of the Fareham School Sports Partnership and, as a result, we are able to offer extra sports clubs at Henry Cort. As part of Year 5’s Art Week at the end of June, we are collecting unwanted trainers and sports shoes to use for an art activity. If you currently have any unwanted trainers or sports shoes (any shape or size) that you could donate to the school, it would be very much appreciated! Please can you bring the shoes to the school office or directly to Year 5 before Monday 21^st June.

On Tuesday 30^th March, our school took part in the Henry Cort Cluster Hockey Festival. We took three teams of Year 5 children who have taken part in the Hockey Club after-school and played matches against lots of teams from Oak Meadow and Orchard Lea. Our Yellow team won their pool with the blue team a close second. In the other pool, our red team came second. Well done to all of those involved!
