Whiteley Primary School

Sustainability

At Whiteley Primary School we aim to teach the children about appreciating and caring for our environment and planet through taught PDL units, assemblies, special days and incidental learning.

The PDL units for each year group are –

R – Caring for our world

1 – Around and about school

2- How we can look after our environment

3- Harold’s environmental project

4 – logo quiz

5 – Mo makes a difference

6 – Project Pitch

Each class has a paper recycling bin, used pen collection point and eco-paper tray. Children are encouraged to use eco-paper where possible and to value resources in the school.

The School takes part in global campaigns such as Switch off Fortnight and Earth Day. We also have an active eco-club called The Green Team which meet every half term. They discuss how to promote sustainability in the school as well as taking part in activities such as litter picking, developing assemblies and recycling.

Children are taught to appreciate the environment through outdoor learning opportunities such as den making, pond dipping, art and a gardening club.

We hope that by Year 6 the children will have learnt to appreciate the world around them, and have developed an understanding of how to take care of it.

Our School sustainability motto is – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
