Home School Link Worker

Who am I?

My name is Nicola Bevan and I am the Home School Link Worker for Whiteley Primary School.

I am a familiar face around the school and along with my role as HSLW I am a full time Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) and Nurture group assistant. I have worked in education for 17 years, with children aged 4-16 years.

Aim:

My aim is to support families and encourage all children to enjoy school and feel happy and secure.

I am available to provide support for children, parents and carers, providing a link between home and school.

I will also be working to support families improve punctuality and attendance.

During term time, I work in partnership with parents/carers, schools and other agencies to support families, aiming to resolve current issues and prevent future difficulties.

I can help……..

• children who are experiencing difficult times or are withdrawn or anxious
• parents/carers experiencing difficulties with their child’s behaviour
• families who are reacting to change, such as parental separation or bereavement
• parents/carers whose children are reluctant to attend school or have been excluded
• Parents/carers who need support on a wide range of issues or difficulties impacting on their family life, e.g. illness, domestic violence, disability.

I can provide…..

• 1:1 support and advice
• Therapeutic sessions with children and families
• Signposting to other sources of help, advice and support
• A cup of tea and a listening ear!

I can also…..

• Help with links between you and school
• Support you at school meetings
• Help you find your way through the education system
• Provide information on support groups for parents/carers.

When am I available?

I am outside near the school gates most mornings. I work in school each day and I am often available between 8.30am and 9.45am.
