Whiteley Primary School

Welcome to our service family page. This page is for providing useful information for our service families and sharing what we do to celebrate our service children.

Rachel Wheeler runs “Forces Lunch” each month with our service children where they share information about where their family members are and have the opportunity to talk about their feelings and share experiences with the other children. This is done informally and during group activities while the children have lots of fun. Rachel is a Teaching Assistant at the school and is a forces wife and mother and has strong naval family links.

If you are going on deployment please let Rachel know, through your child’s teacher. This way Rachel and your child could email you whilst you are away and we can arrange Skype calls for those deployed in areas with time differences that make it difficult to keep in contact outside of school hours. We have found this to be very important for the children to be able to show you what they have been doing in school. Rachel can also feedback any fears and concerns discussed by your child should she feel it is significant and needs to be shared.

Rachel’s email address is rachel.wheeler@whiteleyapps.com

I have been a naval wife for 22 years and have three children aged between 10 and 14 years so I know the ups and downs of service life. I am so pleased to run Forces Lunch with our service children every month, I am passionate about their welfare and am honoured to get to know them well. I plan activities to suit the ages of the children and I get their feedback on what they like to do.

We have a school notice board to celebrate the children’s serving parents, the children have ownership of this and regularly update their family member’s details.

We have a small group of service children across the school and they quickly become good friends with each other. It is so lovely to see KS2 children high fiving the children in reception or KS1 every time they see each other.

I update the Forces Lunch board every time we meet, with what we have been doing, to share with the rest of the school. I shall make sure I share these with you also, via the website.

Please feel free to contact me via my email address, I am very happy to receive suggestions and always available to discuss any concerns.

Kind regards,

Rachel Wheeler
