Whiteley Primary School

YR New Starters 2021

Dear Parent/Carer,

Thank you for your interest in Whiteley Primary School. September 2017 saw us mark the 20th anniversary of the school, and in the past 23 years, we have grown from around 100 pupils to 630. However, regardless of the numbers of children, we have always strived to ensure that their experience at primary school is memorable. Following our ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted judgement in 2013, we have continued to evaluate and develop our provision to meet the needs of our current pupils. As a large school, we have a wealth of staff experience and expertise to draw on and have structures in place to ensure that all children are supported well, not only as they start in our reception classes, but throughout the primary years.

Pupils at Whiteley Primary School are encouraged to do their very best and we are immensely proud of the achievements of both past and present pupils. We want them to be as successful as they can be – not only in their academic achievements, but across the wider curriculum. Our talented team of staff work hard to provide an exciting curriculum, along with extra-curricular opportunities, which help children to develop their interests and talents. Our pupils are encouraged to participate and persevere, even when things get a little tricky; and for those who excel, there are opportunities to take part in local competitions and festivals. Our sports teams have had recent success in football, netball, cross county and tag-rugby, and our junior choir, senior choir and woodwind ensembles have also all experienced success at local competitions.

We are fortunate to have pupils who are keen to get involved, to represent their school and to take on responsibilities. It is always a delight to see our older pupils supporting younger pupils – whether that’s as reading mentors, peer mentors or as librarians.  We hope that our pupils will continue to be active citizens when they leave our school, and embrace the opportunities that secondary school will offer them.

Whiteley Primary School serves the whole of Whiteley area. Although we have been oversubscribed for a number of years, we are increasingly seeing places offered to children who live outside of Whiteley but in nearby catchment areas as the population of Whiteley becomes more settled.  We hope that our prospectus will help you to make an informed choice that Whiteley Primary School is the right for your child – this is available on the website but a hard copy can also be collected from the school office. I am also very happy to answer questions from prospective parents via email or phone. Current guidance from Public Health England restricts us from running school tours at present, but we would encourage prospective parents to make use of the links on this website so that you can see that we really are ‘A Place to Smile’.

Yours faithfully,

Lesley Pennington – Headteacher
